Shipping Italian Vintage Furniture: How it Works and What to Expect

Shipping vintage furniture: a matter of care

Buying a piece of Italian modern or antique furniture online requires trust, especially when dealing with fragile, precious, and often one-of-a-kind items. Shipping is one of the most delicate phases of the entire process: inadequate packaging or an unskilled carrier can irreparably damage a piece that has survived decades unscathed.

At Dario Raia Vintage & Design, we handle every shipment with the same care with which we select our pieces.

How we pack vintage furniture

Each piece is custom-packed following a precise protocol:

  • Surface protection — tissue paper and bubble wrap to protect wood, leather, and delicate finishes
  • Custom rigid packaging — wooden crates or reinforced cardboard sized to the specific piece
  • Internal securing — the furniture is locked inside the packaging to prevent movement during transport
  • Photographic documentation — photographs of the piece's condition before and after packaging

Carriers specialized in art and antiques

We do not use generic couriers. We collaborate with carriers specialized in art and antiques who have equipped vehicles, trained staff, and specific insurance for valuable items.

This guarantees:

  • Careful manual handling by expert personnel
  • Vehicles with damping systems and temperature control
  • Insurance coverage adequate to the value of the piece
  • Real-time shipment tracking

Where we ship

We ship throughout Europe: Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and other countries upon request. For extra-European destinations, please contact us for a personalized quote.

Shipping times and costs

Times and costs vary based on the size of the piece and the destination. We always provide a detailed quote before order confirmation. For large items (sideboards, tables, sofas), we organize transport with advance notice and agree on the delivery date directly with the customer.

What to do in case of damage

In case of damage during transport, it is essential to:

  • Photograph the damage before fully opening the packaging
  • Report the damage to the carrier upon delivery
  • Contact us within 24 hours with the photographs

We handle every report with priority and in collaboration with the carrier and insurance.
