Montblanc — The art of writing and German luxury since 1906
History and Foundation
Montblanc was founded in Hamburg in 1906 by three partners – Alfred Nehemias, August Eberstein, and Claus-Johannes Voss – with the goal of producing high-quality writing instruments. The brand name was adopted in 1910, inspired by the highest peak in the Alps: a symbol of excellence, ambition, and artisanal perfection.
The Meisterstück: A Timeless Icon
In 1924, Montblanc launched the Meisterstück – literally "masterpiece" in German – the fountain pen that would become the absolute symbol of the brand and one of the most iconic design objects of the twentieth century. With its black resin body, gold details, and 14 or 18-carat gold nib, the Meisterstück is still produced and sold worldwide today, unchanged in its essence.
Expansion into Luxury
From the 1990s onwards, Montblanc progressively expanded its offering beyond writing instruments, entering the segments of watches, leather goods, jewelry, and luxury accessories. Each category maintains the brand's founding values: quality materials, artisanal precision, and a sober, elegant design.
Limited Editions and Special Collections
Montblanc is famous for its limited editions dedicated to great personalities in history, art, and culture – from the Great Characters series to the Patron of Art collection. These pieces, produced in limited and numbered runs, are highly valued by collectors worldwide.
