Italian

Mid-Century Modern

Osvaldo Borsani (19111985) was one of the most multifaceted and visionary figures of twentieth-century Italian design. Born into an artistic family, he grew up immersed in the artisanal culture of Brianza. After graduating in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1937, he developed understated luxury furniture in rare woods and brass through the family workshop ABV (Arredamenti Borsani Varedo). In 1953, he founded Tecno with his brother Fulgenzio, bringing quality design to mass production: the P40 armchair (1954), the D70 sofa (1954), and the P126 executive chair (1966) were born. His pieces are in the permanent collections of the MoMA in New York and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
